Sciatica
Description:
The sciatic nerve is the thickest nerve in the body. It runs deep through the lateral rotator muscles and down the posterior of the leg. When compressed or injured it can cause shooting pain from the hip down through the leg.
Precautions:
If the pain has been diagnosed as true sciatic pain, massage is contraindicated and may actually make the condition worse. (see also Piriformis Syndrome)
