Most massage schools offer their students instruction on stretches as a part of thier basic curriculum. They are taught not onlyhow to do the stretches on clients as a part of the massage, but also how to instruct the client. The massage therapist can show you how to do the stretches during a massage session so you can do them at home on your own. It is to the benefit of both you as the client and the massage therapist for you to do stretches as it helps to reinforce the actual massage session work and prolong the benefits.

Most massage therapists are able to help you with non-specific back stretches, however, more advanced stretching advice would be out of scope of practice.  I know this is not the means for a longer description of your problem, however you don't mention whether the pain is in your lower or upper back nor do you mention whether that pain is a result of an injury, bad posture or any other cause.  This information would be needed by a massage therapist in order to be able to tailor their advice to your specific needs.

I hope this helps.

Yes. Most massage therapists can recommend stretches to help your back pain that you can do at home. Depending on where is the pain area/s such as upper and lower back mucles will determine what streches will release restricted fasica. Stretching properly all muscle groups on a regular basis will help alleviate and prevent pain.
