What kind of massage is best for sciatica and tailbone pain?

0 votes
I have acute sciatica-type pain, I don't know for sure if it's indeed sciatica or if it's related to my left SI joint, also have extreme tailbone pain that is worsened with sitting, even for short periods of time. Is there a particular type of massage I should seek out to help alleviate the pain and resolve the issue?

Hi! In my personal opinion, I have found that trigger point therapy (sometimes called neuromuscular therapy) can be quite effective in eliminating sciatic like pain. It is also comfortable for you as the client to receive treatment in the tailbone region. This modality can be administered over the clothes. The goal with trigger point therapy is to seek and destroy trigger points and their associated pain referral pattern. The therapist will locate the trigger point, with your guidance, and apply prolonged pressure until the referral diminishes. This essentially tells the brain to stop bombarding the muscle with excessive stimulus and thus, deactivating the trigger point. I hope that helps!
