Rotator Cuff Syndrome

January 17th, 2013

Posted by Awareness Bodyworks

Rotator cuff syndrome plagues many people. Some chose to have surgery, while others seek Physical Therapy to help cure the problem and get their flexibility back. Both are very acceptable and well meaning sources to supplement the problem, but unless the muscles that have been affected are released, the shoulder never gets the full range of motion (ROM), flexibility and freedom that it once had. Massage Therapy can do all that and more. Seeking a qualified Massage Therapist (MT) who is trained in releasing and stretching the rotator cuff muscles; Supraspinatus, Subscapularis, Infraspinatus, & Teres Major & Minor is important for a full recovery. The right MT can also capture the secondary muscles affected as well; Major & Minor Rhomboids, Pectorals Major & Minor, Deltoid, Triceps & Biceps. All of the muscles react together, causing pain, restriction and sometimes developing into Frozen Shoulder. The MT should both manually manipulate the affected muscles with the hand, elbow, forearm and/or a device to release the tension, toxins and any adhesions that may have built up from surgery, injury or lack of use. Stretching is also important to get the ROM and flexibility back into the shoulder, arm and upper back. Seeking help beyond surgery and Physical Therapy guarantees the client a successful recovery and a shoulder that is better than ever.
