Gout
Description:
Gout is a form of inflammatory arthritis caused by an excess of uric acid which forms needle-like crystals that accumulate in and around the foot causing a great deal of inflammation and pain. Treatment is aimed at reducing the uric acid in the system and consists of making changes in the diet and taking medication.
Precautions:
Gout is a local contraindication for any affected joints. If gout is in an acute stage massage is a systemic contraindication. Medication used in treatment may include blood thinners which may also contraindicate massage.
