Meniere's Disease/Syndrome
Description:
Meniere's disease is a disorder of the inner ear that can affect hearing and balance. It is most often unilateral, but may be bilateral in some individuals. It is caused by an increase in volume and pressure of the endolymph of the inner ear. Symptoms include tinnitus, vertigo, nausea, vomiting and progressive hearing loss.
Precautions:
In the throes of a Meniere's attack and for a short time afterward, it is extremely unlikely that anyone will ask for any kind of massage. During times of remission massage may help to increase circulation and reduce fluid build up and may help to reduce the severity or number of episodes.
