Sinus Problems see sinusitis
Description:
Sinus problems differ from respiratory problems in that breathing is usually hindered by congestion in the nasal sinuses. This may cause not only stuffiness but also severe headaches. Sinus problems can be caused by allergies or infection and are usually considered a symptom rather than a specific disease or disorder. Decongestants and anti-inflammatories are often prescribed to alleviate the discomfort.
Precautions:
If the sinus problems are caused by a bacterial or viral infection, or if the client is feverish, massage is contraindicated. If the problem is caused by allergies, massage may be administered. Massage in a prone position may put pressure on the sinus area and needs to be limited in time so as to avoid discomfort.
