Contractures
Description:
A contracture is a permanent tightening or shortening of a body part, such as a muscle, tendon or skin which affects both shape and function of the area. The contracture is often a response to continued stress or spasticity, or an over-firing of commands from the nervous system to the various body tissues. Contractures may be caused by burns, occur as a result of surgery or symptomatic of disorders such as cerebral palsy or Dupuytren's contractures.
Precautions:
Contractures cannot be exercised or stretched away once they occur. Massage can help to relieve the pain
