Dupuytren's Contracture
Description:
Dupuytren's contracture is caused by a shrinking and thickening of the fascia on the palm of the hand and results in a permanent bending, or flexion, of the ring and little finger. If left untreated, the fingers may eventually lose all function.
Precautions:
Massage may help reduce contractures, but it generally will not reverse or eliminate the condition. Massage is perhaps most helpful when done in conjunction with physical therapy or exercise.
