Pneumonia
Description:
Pneumonia is a general term for inflammation of the lungs. It is usually caused by a bacteria or virus and often affects those with a weakened immune system. Symptoms include coughing, high fever, pain when breathing and shortness of breath.
Precautions:
During an acute stage of pneumonia, massage would be contraindicated, but during the less acute recovery stages, massage, (especially percussive or tapotement techniques) may be helpful in breaking up and moving mucus into the bronchial tubes.
