Postural Deviations
Description:
Postural deviations include scoliosis (an S or C curve of the spine), kyphosis (humpback) and lordosis (swayback). Most postural deviations are from unknown origins, though some may be caused by genetics, cerebral palsy, polio and other neuromuscular disorders. Complications can include pain from pressure on nerves and vertebral misalignment, muscle spasm and loss of range of motion.
Precautions:
If there is no underlying pathology, massage can be administered safely and may offer relief by reducing muscle tension.
