Raynaud's Syndrome
Description:
Raynaud's Syndrome is caused by hyperactivation of the sympathetic nervous system resulting in an exaggerated vasomotor response to cold or certain emotional situations. It causes the fingers, toes and sometimes the ears and nose to become cold and numb or tingly
Precautions:
Massage can help in increasing blood flow to the extremities as well as the reduction of stress with primary Raynaud's. However, if a client has secondary Raynaud's, the massage therapist needs to be aware of any associated disorders such as lupus, arthritis or scleroderma among others to be able to determine any possible contraindications.
