Sleep Disorders
Description:
A sleep disorder is anything that interferes with either the ability to fall asleep or the ability to stay asleep for an adequate period of time. There are more than 70 types of sleep disorders. Common sleep disorders include sleep apnea, insomnia, restless leg syndrome and narcolepsy. Deprivation of sleep can lead to hallucinations, excessive fatigue (which is the cause of many car accidents), poor short-term memory, lack of concentration and mood changes.
Precautions:
Massage can help with many sleep disorders by helping the client to reach deep stages of relaxation and reduction of stress, but the underlying cause needs to be determined by a physician to rule out any serious underlying disease.
