Ulcerative Colitis

Ulcerative colitis is when the mucosal layer of the colon becomes inflamed and develops shallow ulcers. Symptoms include abdominal pain or cramping, chronic diarrhea, pus in stools, mild fever and weight loss.

Massage is contraindicated with acute ulcerative colitis, especially if there is fever. In subacute conditions light abdominal massage may be tolerated.
